Our History

Fahey & Ponti has been providing reliable, quality services to Queensland for 80 years. This is how the company evolved over those years:

B.S Donovan (1922 - 1928)
Mr. B.S. Donovan (Bernie), was born in Charleville in 1890. He commenced the business in the early 1920's. The firm was involved in Real Estate, Insurance and Accountancy.

Donovan & McCarthy(1928 - 1947)
Bernie Donovan was joined by Mr. C.C. McCarthy (Charlie), in the late 1920's as a partner. Charlie McCarthy was born in 1900 at Mount Morgan, and was previously employed by the Queensland Taxation Department.

Donovan & McCarthy (1947 - 1953)
Bernie Donovan died in 1947, and his interest was taken over by Mr. M. Donovan (Mick), his son, who had been an employee of the firm.

Donovan & O'Brien (1953)
Charlie McCarthy sold his interest to Mr. D.J. O'Brien (Dave) in 1953, and retired to Brisbane. Dave O'Brien was previously in the Taxation Office, and conducted an accountancy practice in Maryborough and Pittsworth before moving to Ayr.

D.J. O'Brien (1953 - 1955)
Mick Donovan retired from the practise in 1953, and became secretary of The Pioneer Mill Suppliers Committee, and continued as a Real Estate, Insurance and Travel Agent.

O'Brien & Fahey(1955 - 1963)
Dave O'Brien sold his interest in the firm to Mr. F.J. Fahey (Frank), on 1st July, 1955

O'Brien & Fahey (1963 - 1977)
Frank Fahey purchased the complete interest of Dave O'Brien when he later retired to Brisbane on 30th June, 1963. Dave O'Brien was killed in a car accident, in Proserpine on his first trip back to Ayr, to visit his ex-partner and clients.

O'Brien & Fahey (1977 - 1984)
Mr. A.F. Ponti (Tony) joined Frank Fahey as a partner on 1st July, 1977.

O'Brien & Fahey (1984 - 1987)
Mr. J.F. Fahey (Jim) joined the firm on 1st July, 1983

Fahey & Ponti (1987 - 1991)
On 1st July, 1987, the firm changed it's name, and opened a full time office in Townsville. The Bowen practice of Illingworth Partners was purchased with Mr. K. Hansen (Kris) admitted as a partner in the Bowen practice. The Bowen firm was called Fahey, Ponti and Hansen.

Fahey & PontiI (1991)
On 1st July, 1991, Frank Fahey, retired as a partner of Fahey & Ponti, and Kris Hansen was admitted as a partner in all branches, trading under the name Fahey & Ponti.

Fahey & Ponti (2005)
On 1st July 2005, Anthony A. Ponti was admitted as a partner in all branches which finalised the second generation of business Partnership between the Fahey & Ponti Families.
